  Today is Veterans Day. Let us all please take a moment to reflect upon all of our veterans, past and present, two-legged and four-legged, those who bravely defended our country, those who gave their lives, as well as those currently serving. If you see a veteran, remember to say "Thank You" for his/her service. Since this is a canine blog, we'll be focusing on the four-legged veterans and their dedication and service. And a great way to honor our military working dogs is to stop by a local shelter and make a donation of food, treats, goods, or money in the name of a K9 soldier. Many of you know and have followed Gibson's treatments for weak hind end issues, including his current bout of right rear leg lameness. K-Laser therapy administered by my veterinarian staff is just amazing and has really helped Gibson with the side effects from the meds such as weak hind end issues, strained muscles, torn CCLs, and arthritis. Since one of Gibson's Epilepsy medications are Phenobarbital, which can affect the liver, it's very important for me to not overload him with more medications for his liver to have to process. It's a great non-invasive holistic method of healing. Below is the video we created of Gibson receiving his treatment, which is like a spa day for him! Meet Jack! He's a sled dog in Alberta, Canada. And he has Canine Epilepsy. But, being an Epi-dog doesn't stop this strikingly handsome Husky from loving exercise. While he is a big boy with lots of energy, he is a puppy at heart!  Since being diagnosed with Canine Epilepsy, Jack's family is going to retire him from his job as a sled dog and they are now seeking a wonderful, loving stable home environment where a family will take the time to exercise him and work with him on leash manners, and while his epilepsy is at the level where he does not need to be medicated, he does need a family who will keep an eye on his medical condition. Jack deserves a home where he will be spoiled! A little fun trivia about Jack - How did he get his name? November kicks off National Epilepsy Awareness Month and our #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness Campaign where we share information, resources, videos, fundraisers, and more to show how dogs with Canine Epilepsy can live full, happy lives. It's also important to let families who may find themselves with a dog with seizures to know they are not alone. There is much support, resources, and information now available to help educate and inform Epi-dog families...and most of it is just a keyboard or cell phone click away! Gibson and I are just looking for the best way to help other Epi-dog parents get all the information they need in order to have an informed discussion with their own veterinarians to make the best possible choices for their Epi-dogs. Education is key! So this month, we are going purple!
