The Power of Puppy Love With The Pupsters on a #FiveSibes Flashback Friday!

Image
Our FiveSibes Pupsters! Ahhh, is there anything sweeter than puppy breath? Today, we are fondly flashing back to when our Pupsters, who are now 10, were just little two-month-old pups! The bond they formed as puppies and have kept over the years is just amazing. What a joy to see these siblings always have the love and security of each other, never to be separated! They warm my heart today just as they did when they first joined our family! What a joy! "Happiness is a warm puppy." ~Charles M. Schulz "Joy is raising three puppies together!" ~Dorothy Wills-Raftery I have heard folks say "you shouldn't raise littermates together" - and I say hogwash to that! It has been one of the greatest experiences for my puppies and me! As a matter of fact, I just recently penned an article called "Puppy Power: Yes, You Can Raise Littermates Together" in my monthly column over at 4Knines blog. You can check out my tips HERE!  ( Just in case y...

A Tale of Two Shelter Dogs: Blog the Change; October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month! Show Off Your Shelter Pet Contest! And FiveSibes/ASPCA GIVEAWAY!

Image
“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” ~ Karen Davison Today, we are joining the Be the Change for Animals Blog the Change and with October being "Adopt A Shelter Dog Month" what more of a perfect time to talk about bringing awareness to the millions of dogs that enter shelters every year. As an advocate for the ASPCA , we here at FiveSibes wish to talk about adopting a dog from a shelter, whether it's a cute puppy, a 'tween, and especially senior dogs.   My previous two angels, Sandy (above left with my daughter when she she was a toddler) and Chelsey (above right with my daughter when she was a teenager) were both adopted as puppies from our local SPCA. While I grew up in a household full of dogs and had my own as a teenager, our  Sandy, a golden German Shepherd/Chow mix (I suspect a little Husky in there), was the first dog my husband and I welcomed in our home as a married couple. ...

It All Began With A Beautiful, Blue-Eyed Sibe Smile on a Flashback Friday!

Image
My journey to becoming the FiveSibesMom, unbeknownst to me at the time, all began 10 years ago with the addition of this beautiful, blue-eyed, eight-week-old Siberian Husky puppy who was to become our future FiveSibes alpha queen and surrogate momma to our three Pupsters...the one, the only, Harley Mari! Oh, and what a wonderful, blessed journey this is! As a photojournalist by trade, it has been such a pleasure to segue my writing and photography features and educational stories into writing and sharing my photographs to shine a light on the wonderful breed of Siberian Huskies and to share our FiveSibes lives with our readers. Today's flashback is not only filled with joyful memories, but a wonderful opportunity to happily reminisce and share the origins of our amazing, loving, and oh-so-lovable FiveSibes! The whole purpose of my starting this FiveSibes Flashback Friday Blog Hop was so we can all have the opportunity to stroll down Memory Lane and relive those younger days ...

Sweet Innocence on a Flashback Friday!

Image
Our sweet Pupsters Wolf, Bandit, and Chloe, all snuggling in their Husky puppy huddle at just eight weeks of age! What a crazy, hectic, fun time it was raising three puppies at once! They would play and tumble and fall fast asleep on top of each other. Always touching. How wonderful it is to see them grow up a bonded sibling family over the years and still to this day, at age seven, huddle together when they sleep, knowing they are safe, protected, and loved...always. Precious memories. "The best things about memories...is making them." ~Anonymous Welcome to our weekly blog hop!  Flashback Fridays are brought to you by us - the FiveSibes - and our new co-hosts, Love is being owned by a Husky , each Friday. We hope you'll find a photo or video from Memory Lane, post it, and link up to our blog hop each week! If you don't catch it on Friday, you can link up any time during the week! A Peek at A Future (Pack) Queen on a Flashback Friday

Image
It seems only fitting that today's Flashback Friday be dedicated to our beautiful alpha queen, Nanuk "Harley" Mari, our first Siberian Husky who kicked off the potato chip syndrome in our family, and who will be celebrating her 10th Birthday on the 10th! Pictured here she was just a mere seven-week-old pup who was a startling beauty right from the start. Her gorgeous blue eyes, intense mask, and vast charm immediately stole our hearts. As soon as my daughter and puppy Harley's eyes met, it was as if she was destined to be in our family. We love you so much, Harley. It's hard to believe it's almost a decade already that you have been ruling our family! Here's to another ten at least! Love you, Momma! "Love at first sight started when we met each other eye to eye, but never ended because we found each other at heart to heart." ~Unknown Flashback Fridays are brought to you by us - the FiveSibes - and our new co-hosts, Love i...

A Puppy Invasion on Flashback Friday ~and~ Winner of our Holiday Husky Card Giveaway!

Image
"Are woo our big bwofur?!!" Puppies! Puppies! Puppies! This wonderful captured moment from 2008 was when our three Pupsters Wolf and Bandit (Chloe off screen) first met their big brother! Gibson was just two and Harley three (mere pups themselves as we all know Sibes fortunately never grow up)! While Harley took to being surrogate mom immediately, big bro Gib was not quite sure of what to make up the puppy invasion of not one, not two, but three new baby siblings! He had been enjoying his bachelor days with his soul mate, Harley.  Oh, but l ooking back, I laugh. I'm not quite sure how we handled three puppies at one time...but my daughter was an amazing puppy momma. I worked out in the field at the time as a photojournalist and editor, and they actually came home while I was working on a project with a tight deadline. But we managed! My daughter took the day shift and we both shared the night shift. (I mean, five Huskies, three of them puppies in the house, we love...

Puppy Kisses on a Flashback Friday!

Image
Who doesn't love puppy breath and puppy kisses?! For today's stroll down Memory Lane, here is a precious flashback to my daughter when she was just a little girl getting sweet kisses from our local SPCA rescue pup, a beautiful German Shepherd/Akita "Chelsey." These two would grow up together and be best friends for life. Chelsey would always watch over and protect my daughter. And when she grew older, her choice play to nap was on my daughter's laundry pile in front of her window in the sun spot! Flash-forward 13 years, and here's a very grown-up Chelsey getting sweet puppy kisses from our Harley! Chelsey taught baby Harley everything she knew! And to this day, Harley has a few habits that we know she learned directly from her furry teacher! Awwww...puppy kisses...is there anything sweeter?! Happy Flashback Friday! And joining us again this week is our new co-host, those beautiful Sibes and their mom from Love is Being Owned by a Hus...
