Our FiveSibes Pupsters! Ahhh, is there anything sweeter than puppy breath? Today, we are fondly flashing back to when our Pupsters, who are now 10, were just little two-month-old pups! The bond they formed as puppies and have kept over the years is just amazing. What a joy to see these siblings always have the love and security of each other, never to be separated! Woo! Today is our beautiful alpha queen Harley's 13th Birthday! Wow! It seems like just yesterday she was a wee pup of 7 weeks old when we drove an hour away in a pouring rain storm to pick up what was our family's first Siberian Husky. My daughter had wanted a Husky pup for a long time, since she was a kid! But I always said when she grew up and knew how to care for a dog, I would get her one. We already had our senior dog, Chelsey, a beautiful German Shepherd and Akita mix we had adopted from our local SPCA when my daughter was very young. They grew up together and were best buds. Once I was confident she could care for her own, we brought Harley into our family. Traveling down Memory Lane can be such a warm and wonderful thing to do. Looking back on our FiveSibes warms my heart, and reminds me of the kabillion fun and loving moments we've had together. While I miss my furangels something fierce, especially my big buddy boy Gibson, being a photographer and chronicling their almost every move serves as a wonderful reminder of all the happy, crazy, and joyous times spent together. It's a way of bringing back those days and getting to spend a few moments visiting with our pets and watching them grow all over again. Oh, and the laughs of raising not one, not two, but three Siberian Husky puppies together in addition to our original two, who just one- and two-year-old pups themselves, is one of those extra special momentous experiences in life I am so blessed to have! "Oh, hey, Mom! Just checking out some recipes!" This week the weather has been very damp, raining, and we even had a few rare northeast February thunder and lightning storms! With the inclement weather, it's a perfect time to warm  up by doing a little baking. As I reached for one of my favorite cookbooks and removed it from the shelf, I smiled through tears as I traced the chewed up cover, and the taped up spine and torn pages, remembering back to when the cover was destroyed. Gibson had another bout of hind end weakness and his rehabilitation included being in a stability harness brace and my walking him in a sling harness to keep weight off his hind end, combined with rest on his water bed along with supplements and laser therapy. He obviously became very bored one night when I walked out into the kitchen and caught him in the middle of chomping on my cookbooks! The expression on his face was priceless! I'd like to take a moment to say a heartfelt "Thank You" to each and every one of you for your kind words, prayers, support, and condolences on the passing of my mother. She was an amazing woman, a loving mother, a best friend, terrific advice giver, and a wonderful Nanny to my daughter. We're trying to figure out thi s "new (ab)normal " life without her. Gib looking spiffy in his "Too Cool" Calming Collar Today’s Epi-Tip is all about keeping an Epi-dog cool. One way is by using a cooler collar. I use them not just in the summer when our north eastern temps soar, but I also will put one on Gibson any time I think he appears agitated or warm as a preventive measure.
