Happy 🌈 Sweet 16 to My Heart Dog, Gibson: Ambassadog for Canine Epilepsy Awareness

Image
Gibson was the face that launched a K9 Epilepsy Awareness movement that proved dogs with Canine Epilepsy (Epi-dogs) could~and do~ live full, happy lives no matter how long we are lucky to have them. We can learn so many lessons from our dog, especially Epi-dogs. Gibson, with all his health issues, embraced life like no other dog I knew. He was truly the happiest dog on earth. He had such a zest for life. No matter what challenge he was faced with as a result of his epilepsy, he just loved life.  My Gibson was truly a rock star. His beautiful face starred on national magazine covers, featured in newspaper articles, online blogs, and Ezines. He was the face behind two different dog treats—Gibbie Snacks through House Woof and later after they shuttered their doors, he was the face of Gib Nibs through Sassy’s Goodies, with donations from both benefitting Canine Epilepsy foundations. Gib inspired me to author two books and dozens of articles on Canine Epilepsy, and launch...

#FlashbackFriday: When Dogs Have Seizures

Image
Flashback Photo ~ Harley ~ March 10, 2018  Today's FiveSibes Flashback Friday photo is of our beautiful 14-year-old amazing alpha pack queen, Harley, pictured above from last year on her 13th birthday! Now don't tell Harley she is a senior, as she still has spunk like she's a pup! This post also covers an important topic, one very close to my heart: Seizures.  As many of you know, my now furangel Gibson, was diagnosed with idiopathic Canine Epilepsy and he became not only the face of Canine Epilepsy, but also my inspiration behind the #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness & Educational Campaign.  developed age-onset seizures when she was 12 . W hile seizures are the same, the causes differ, and seizures in a senior dog are typically not Canine Epilepsy. Last May, I was thrilled to be asked by Hindy Pearson to write a guest blog post on her Caring for a Senior Dog website about this topic. Please check it out HERE . This past February, I was...

A Fond Fall Flashback Friday

Image
Since beautiful Autumn has arrived in all of its colorful glory, and this is also the month for Epilepsy Awareness Month, it is only fitting that today's Flashback Friday photo be of my Epi-warrior, Gibson. Participating in the Confessions of a Rescue Mom's #30DaysForEpiNovember #CanineEpilepsy Photo Challenge, each day unfolds a day in the life of Gibson. It's almost as if this challenge has become a photo essay of his life. Some of the photos are posted here and some are on other social media sites - our FiveSibes Facebook page and on Instagram. Each one gets me thinking and remembering... Yesterday's challenge was "Fear" and boy, was that a tough one. At the end of this month, I think I'm going to do a slideshow of all 30 days of the photo challenge...a glimpse into the life of an Epi-dog. What do you think? Today's quote is a perfect one for my strong boy. It's almost as if it were written with Gibson in mind.  "He didn't t...

Purple Day® Blog Hop is Here! Show Us Your Purple in Support of Those Living With Epilepsy

Image
Today is Purple Day® for Epilepsy and World Epilepsy Day™. As many of you loyal readers are aware, my Gibson was, is, and always will be my inspiration behind our FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness campaign and Canine Epilepsy advocacy.  What is Purple Day?  Here is a short video that will help explain it all...but know, it's credited to a 9-year-old girl named Cassidy Megan who wanted to have a special day for others like herself, who live with Epilepsy, to know that people around the world care, and there should be no stigmas or fear attached to Epilepsy. I whole-heartedly agree, and want to add the very same goes for our canine companions. Please take a moment and watch the video if you have not yet had the chance to view. And be sure to check out the end credits for a condensed list of Canine Epilepsy informational resources. (A more extensive list is in my book, EPIc Dog Tales ). Gibson, the Face of Canine Epilepsy & #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epi...
