November is Epilepsy Awareness  Month, and here at FiveSibes we will be once again highlighting a month's worth of "Live Gib Strong" Epi-Tips, surveys, news on Canine Epilepsy, food tips, highlighting Epi-All Stars, and more all month long. Please be sure to check back for important Canine Epilepsy information and links, and feel free to share our posts via our "share" buttons at the end of each post.  The Royal Veterinary College Canine Epilepsy Research has announced that they are running a survey for dogs who have been diagnosed with idiopathic Epilepsy who have focal seizures. The survey runs through February 2016. RVC states, "...if your dog unfortunately experiences a focal seizure in this time, or has experienced one in the past three months, please consider filling out our survey. The more we understand epilepsy the better we can tackle it and help owners like you manage their dogs."    To take the survey, please visit HERE.  T...

Flashback Friday Revisits 70 Years Ago Today...to a Heroic Generation

Image
T/Sgt. Wills with two K9 buddies. Today, we are taking trip down Memory Lane to an important time in our American history. Seventy years ago today - May 8, 1945, was VE Day, Victory in Europe Day, signaling the nearing end of World War II. My dad served in the United States Army from 1939 until the end of World War II in 1945. He served two tours in the European Theater - one from 1942 until 1943 with the renowned "Big Red One" 1st Division, and then a second time he went back with the men he trained in the 16th Infantry's Rainbow Division, both times in a medical detachment. Ironically, May 8th is also the day my Dad earned his wings and journeyed to Heaven...in 1974, just one year shy of 30 years after he was one of our nation's "greatest generation" heroes. My Dad was a great lover of animals, dogs and horses in particular. Even on base, he canine buddies! In 1995, I was part of our city's WWII Commemorative Anniversary Committee and worked ...

Update on Wolf and Hu-Mom

Image
One week ago today, Wolf went in for surgery on his other CCL. Pictured above, Wolf on his way home from ortho surgeon with my husband and daughter. What made this extremely difficult was that I could not accompany Wolf to or from surgery as I have been sick with acute bronchitis at first, which was upgraded just a few days ago to pneumonia. Wolf's surgery went well for a completely torn CCL, blown meniscus, and a lot of arthritis. He was heavy medicated, but prognosis is good, just like his other leg that healed well after surgery last Halloween. We've been convalescing buddies. Wolf being greeted by his pack family (sis Bandit on the left and "momma" Harley on the right) as he he is helped up the ramp to the back deck with a sling by Hu-Dad. Everyone is so happy he is back home. Wolf all nestled onto his bed with one of his buddies, on the road to healing. As soon as I am feeling more myself and healthier, I'll be back on to updat...

A Fabulous Friday Gibson Update!

Image
Another wonderful update on Gibson to report! The other day we took a little adventure out to the front yard, assisted with the harness. Once again, he was able to walk unassisted for a few strides (woo-woo!), then he sniffed some roses, and enjoyed some resting time on the grass. He was tired out, even though it was a very short walk, but he did very well. His in-home laser treatments have now been extended to every other week. I'm so very proud of my boy! Baby steps, baby steps, wh ich will hopefully continue to lead to bigger and stronger steps each day! THANK YOU all so much for you continuous care and support of Gibson! He surely feels all the love! And even though the past six months of rehabbing my boy has kept me busy as he really needed my attention and steady care, as he hopefully continues to gain his strength, we hope to get back to posting more and once again sharing news, photos, videos, reviews, and giveaways!  A little back story: For those of you who ...

Summer Fun Canine Photo Contest Winners!

Image
Our Bandit is excited to share the news! The final round of judging for our FiveSibes Summer Fun Canine Photo Contest has been completed! Woo! From playing to swimming to hitting the beach and ball park, and from hiking to camping and lounging, your beautiful pups sure know how to have fun in the sun! Every single dog is gorgeous! And yes, while we did receive a majority of photos from Husky parents, the contest was open to all breeds, and only two of the judges were Husky parents. The others had furkids of their own in a variety of breeds. And we want to say right up front, that if your precious pup did not place in this contest...please know it is definitely not a reflection of your dog...the judges were in love with all the dogs, and as you know from my updates, they had a very difficult time judging the photos because the quality of Summer Fun themed photos were just amazing! The judges' panel had placed so many in the top, that there had to be a second, and then a t...
