Remembering Wolfie on His Rainbow Bridge Anniversary
"No longer by my side, but forever in my heart."
So hard to believe my baby boy of my FiveSibes ~ "pupster" Wolfgang, a/ka/ Wolfie or Wolf or Baby Boy ~ joined my others north of the Rainbow Bridge four years ago today. He always looked and acted like a puppy, that even at 13.5 years of age, it was hard to tell by looking at him that he was a senior dog. His beautiful fluffy white coat hid any telltale age signs like gray fur. I think maybe that made it even more difficult when it was his time...because he just always looked like my fuzzy blue-eyed puppy.
Wolfie missed his pack family. He wasn't built for life without them. Thankfully, he and my grandson bonded, and us three wrote the book Wolfie, What Is The Rainbow Bridge? while my baby boy was still here with us.
The holidays are still an emotionally difficult time. I lost my beloved mother in November 15, 2015, and one month later, on December 16th, my big boy Gibson, Wolfie's older brother, earned his wings and made his journey to north of the Rainbow Bridge. I always thought because he was such an old soul and my heart dog, that he left to keep my mother company.
Then six years later, also in December, my Wolfie earned his wings. With no snow in the forecast, my boy sent me a gift...a snow squall that came on so quickly and heavy, then cleared...I knew then my boy's journey had finished and he was once again reunited with my other four.
"The past beats inside of me like a second heart." ~John Banville
So many things have changed since Wolfie left...but one thing never will...the love I will forever feel for him, his big brother Gibson, siblings Chloe and Bandit, and their alpha queen Harley. My Forever FiveSibes.
So this holiday season, especially if you have gone through a loss of a beloved pet or pets, remember them and the joy they brought into your life. That will always be their legacy, and in our hearts they will forever live. If you are blessed to still have your pet(s), enjoy them and your time together for one day when they are no longer here, those moments become memories for your heart.
Now, it's time for me to reread my own book I wrote with Wolfie and my grandson—my Wolfie, What Is The Rainbow Bridge book, to remind myself that true love never dies.
