Newsy Tuesday! Reviewing "Remington's Pup Passport" & Meet the Author/Designer

Do you enjoy traveling and vacationing with your dog? Is s/he your trusty companion while out on the road or trails? Do you have fun together going for Car Rides? Walking? Hiking? Bikejoring? Skijoring? Mushing? Sight-seeing? Or even just a fun day at the Dog Park? Well then, a Remington's Pup Passport is for you!

What exactly is a Pup Passport? Well, it's not an actual legal passport, but rather a fun, handy informational record and special memory book of where you and your beloved dog have gone, including a spot for a photo of your "Favorite Memory" while there. There's even a section for notes, and a map of the USA to "pin" your travels.

As always, here on FiveSibes, I bring you accurate and transparent information. I do not review an item I have not personally seen and/or used. This blog article contains an affiliate link, and a small commission from qualifying purchases *at no cost to you* may be earned if you choose to purchase the item using the link.

Remington's Pup Passport, created by Tiffany M. Smith of the website Pennies, Places, and Paws, is also a great tool to have as it includes important information on your dog, in the event that s/he takes off or goes missing (and we sure hope not), but it happens. According to Lost Dogs of America, dogs can go into "survival mode" when they find themselves in a strange area without their humans. "Survival mode refers to a state of heightened physiological and psychological response that occurs in dogs when they are lost or separated from their owners. When a dog finds themselves in an unfamiliar environment or is separated from their pack (i.e., their human family), they can become overwhelmed and experience stress, anxiety, and fear." Therefore, they may be not only scared, but also disoriented and will continue to run. To have their info and photo ready at any given moment is so important!

Besides being a special memory book, Remington's Pup Passport also serves as an important record to easily have with you as it contains all the information you will need to help find your dog, whether you are filing a report, creating a poster, or need proof that the dog is yours if it has been found and held at a shelter. The Pup Passport has an Identification page where you adhere a photo of your dog and list important info such as your dog's name, breed, date of birth, and microchip number. There is also a Vaccination Record page, which is very important when traveling with your dog. This page has a place to list your dog's vaccines and dates, veterinarian info, pet insurance info, and if your dog has any medical issues.

But aside from the importance of this book, it's FUN! Just imagine kicking back one day and looking through it, like a scrap book or photo album,  you get to relive the wonderful experience you had with your dog each time you flip through your Pup Passport!

The quality of this little Passport is exceptional. The cover is beautiful; navy blue with gold embossing. It has such an official feel to it. The interior heavier cardstock-like pages are sturdy and can easily support writing and adhering photos to. And the size is a very handy 3.5" x 5" ~ small and mighty!

Snap a pic, jot down a fave memory of a destination you traveled to with your beloved pup!

This high-quality little passport book also features a map of the USA to "pin" your travels (with included cute colorful pawpint stickers), and the all-important ASPCA Poison Control number because we just never know if, when, or where our dog could get into something toxic.

I highly recommend a Remington's Pup Passport for each of your dogs. You won't be disappointed!

Price range is $15~19 depending on selection.

There are two ways to purchase the Pup Passport!

1.  Directly through Pennies, Places, and Paws website (where you can choose Basic or request a Custom ID page), or 2. Through Amazon! (As of today's posting, Amazon notes it can still arrive in time for Christmas. What a fun stocking stuffer this would be for your travel-loving friends and family!)

So, why was Remington's Pup Passport designed? I had a chance to "chat" with Tiffany, so let's meet her and her adventure-loving family!

What inspired you to create this? I got the idea to create Remington’s Pup Memory Passport because I loved the idea behind the National Park Passport and wanted something similar for my dogs. I was looking for an item that would allow me to quickly record our vacation memories in a fun way. Since I couldn’t find a product like this, I decided to make one with the help of my graphic designer husband! I thought of everything I would want in a pocket-sized travel scrapbook and went to work! I love the idea of scrapbooks but deciding what stickers and how to arrange each page is too overwhelming for me. The layout of Remington’s Pup Passport eliminates this problem because the pages are already formatted.

Did you travel with Remington? Remington was my travel partner for 16 years and the inspiration for Pennies, Places, and Paws. We traveled to over 20 states together over the years and even took a month-long road trip. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2022, so this passport is my way of celebrating how much he meant and still means to me. My husband and I still travel with our current pack of three dogs, including our 1-year-old puppy, Francis.

How in your opinion will Remington's Pup Passport benefit pet owners, besides having a wonderful souvenir of trips together? In our many travels, I’ve also come across multiple owners who have lost their dogs on the trails. I realized having a photo and description of your dog with you is crucial in these situations. This is why we set up the Identification page so every owner would have quick access to a photo of their dog in case they need it. The same goes for vet information. If something goes wrong, it’s hard to remember details like medications, or vaccinations. This way, all the information is ready and available, which is super important so that our pets receive the best care possible.

What do you hope people enjoy or are inspired to do with having your passport? I hope Remington’s Pup Memory Passport inspires people to bring their dogs on more adventures! I truly believe that pets are family, and I try to include ours in as many activities as possible. This is a huge part of keeping our pack healthy and happy.
