Make Homeless Huskies Season Bright! It's Our 3rd Annual Sponsor-A-Rescue-Husky Gift Drive!
‘Tis the season to help homeless Siberian Huskies in need! As we've all seen, there is a serious problem of Huskies and northern breed dogs being "surrendered," or worse, abandoned, some ill and injured, and their only hope is that rescue folks will be able to save them. Due to the tremendous number of them being abandoned by what they thought were their forever families, rescues are filled beyond capacity, some have closed intakes, while others are hoping more fosters step forward to help give them temporary homes until a forever one can be found. Without them, these beautiful dogs have zero chance. They are a magnanimous breed that need exercise, socialization, interaction, and love. A shelter is no place for any dog, especially this breed. And there are just too many now who are waiting for their forever homes, whether it is in the care of a loving foster family or waiting at a brick-and-mortar rescue for someone to come and welcome them into their family. These dogs depend on rescues, and we depend on rescues to help them--but the rescues need help, or else they can't continue to save the Huskies.
Rescues, volunteers, and fosters do incredible, sometimes impossible, work. From saving Huskies who have been abandoned, injured, sick, and even owner-surrendered…these caring folks go above and beyond to help Huskies in need…from getting them medical care, finding them a caring foster home, offering transportation, working with them to readjust to love and a home life, training, and helping rehabilitate them and acclimate them to a loving home life.
Why do I do this each year? For me, sharing my life with my FiveSibes—Harley, Gibson, Wolfgang,
Chloe, and Bandit—I learned so much and received so much love back from them.
They will always be in my heart. And in their names, I’d like to once again help other

We hope all kinds of husky love shows up this holiday season!
ReplyDeleteHuskies and malamutes are a big commitment. I wish more people took the time to understand a breed before committing.
ReplyDeleteI think people love the idea of a Husky then they get one and realise how much 'maintenance' these beautiful dogs really need. Huskies strike me as being super active dogs and they look amazing but if you aren't then kapow, the Husky gets dumped (and feels it has failed its family).
ReplyDeleteDo Your Research PEOPLE!! Adopt a dog you can afford and cope with. If it's a Husky the bless you and take a look at these candidates here who need forever homes.

I LOVE that you do this every year! I believe folks want to help and give-back, especially this time of year. So, you making it easy is terrific! I hope these rescues all get flooded with donations (as well as local shelters). Adopting a furry buddy is a life long commitment. Folks should do their research, volunteer, or foster to make sure that it's a good idea for them. Then maybe the surrender or abandonment percentages would go down. I still hope that some day all furry friends will have loving homes and shelters and fosters won't be needed. It's a pie (or doggie treat) in the sky dream, but you have to have hope, right? Thanks, Dorothy for this post! I'm sharing with all my dog parents and hope they all donate.
ReplyDeleteYou never stop and amaze me with how much you do, what a wonderful way of helping those that need homes, it is a Mitzvah (Yiddish for good deed) Giving them homes is the best gift we can give them, thank you so much for this great post
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! Such an easy way to find a rescue that needs help and spells out how to do it. My brain needs things as easy and straight forward as possible this time of year :)
