Celebrating 10 Years of "The Sibe Vibe" Show on Dog Works Radio: "If It's About A Siberian Husky, We'll Chat About It Here!"
In the Siberian Husky "ease" of speaking, "Wooooo!" is something that really transcends time and language. And it fits perfectly for today's #FlashbackFriday post!
A sidebar here about our move, it was a big one and there were some adjustments for my two surviving "Pupsters" - Wolfie and Bandit, as they were senior dogs themselves, missing the rest of their packmates, including pupster sister Chloe, and Wolfie always had anxiety. So, I wanted to devote my time to helping them adjust to something so new. It's here I have to say when I hear of people moving and using that as an excuse to dump their dogs, I get extremely prickly. They are part of the family - and they love us and all that was familiar to them. They also have fears and need time to learn a new routine, just like us. It's our responsibility as their caregivers to make them feel comfortable and help them adjust to new surroundings, and to know they are always loved. As long as they are together with their family. I would NEVER, EVER, leave my dogs behind. Wherever I go, they go. And to sum up the more than 15 years of sharing my life with these beautiful, amazing dogs, they are now all together once again on my property, and running free north of the Rainbow Bridge, forever in this FiveSibesMom heart.
But I digress for this post is about the show that my five beautiful beloved Sibes--Harley and Gibson, along with "Pupsters" Wolfie, Chloe, and Bandit-- inspired--The FiveSibes "The Sibe Vibe." A show I am so very proud of.
I thank Robert and his wife Michele (who occasionally stepped
in as co-host and producer when Robert was away racing Team Ineka) for not only giving
me this opportunity and the forum to discuss this magnificent
breed...but for always encouraging me to bring my
love and knowledge of Siberian Huskies and Canine Epilepsy to the airwaves via his family of
shows. Robert and Michele are expert themselves in the dog arena, and not just Huskies (of which they have 58 of) and mushing, but also as professional dog trainers through their Alaska Dog Works. Working with Robert is a dream. His love and knowledge of the breed shines through in everything he does (even First Paw coffee!), and his voice was born for the radio air waves. He has been a wonderful radio and podcast mentor to me, and a joy to have as a co-host and producer.
It's on these days I contemplate picking the mic back up and once again sharing some pretty incredible stories about my FiveSibes and Siberian Huskies across the globe. I do have a few ideas percolating, and hope to have possibly turn those ideas into print and for a few "The Sibe Vibe" specials possibly coming your way in the future,
Today, however, we are looking back over the past 10 years and I thank every single guest who came on the show to share their stories and discuss Siberian Huskies and northern breed dogs, Canine Epilepsy (as part of my #FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong educational campaign), and dog care and dog health in so many shapes and forms.

And...for the LIVE anniversary show back in 2016, we also were proud to receive a Dog Writers Association of America nomination for "Excellence" in a radio show/podcast for the "Talking Canine Epilepsy" episode featuring Dr. Karen Muñana, veterinarian neurologist, professor of Neurology; and Julie Nettifee, RVT, BS, VTS research specialist both at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
(Yes, that is a FiveSibes tattoo on my arm! ♥︎)
I'd like to tip my old cowgirl hat (a throwback to my life pre-Huskies, but always in my heart) to our very first guests on #TheSibeVibe, the incredible folks - Debi and Janet - from the Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida.

All of the guests over the years were so wonderful - ranging from vet experts, rescuers, northern breed & Epi-dog advocates, mushers, artists, movie producers, authors, and so many more, and when I celebrated the show's 4th anniversary in 2016 with Robert and Michele having traveled from Alaska to the Hudson Valley, New York in order to host the live show with me with an audience - well, that was definitely a thrill! And speaking of long-distance travelers, a member of the Empire State Snow Dog Club, Mannie (pictured above) had traveled all the way up from New York City to join us!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous memory! I hope you do start your radio show back up. I imagine it helped a lot of Husky owners or those thinking about getting a Husky. Your voice is so calm and reassuring. I know it was a great service. Maybe you can just do it quarterly so it's not so much of a burden to do. What a terrific way to get the word out about how wonder Huskies are to all the world, especially when people want to listen more than read anymore.
ReplyDeleteThe National Dog photo of your FiveSibes is absolutely beautiful! I love your logo and your mug. I'd buy one if I wasn't in the process of trying to pack and move. I'd probably lose it or break it.
I couldn't agree with you more that our dogs and pets are family. Where we go, they go. They aren't trash to be thrown out. They're precious members of the family. Although, Henry was thrown out with the trash when his original owners died. But it gave me a chance to find him. I'll look at the positives in that one.
I'm sharing this with all my dog parents!

ReplyDeleteIt is astonishing that your radio show has been thriving for ten years (Hey that's a decade - right?) It is important you educate about the field you know so well as people search everywhere for feel good stories, drama and education.
