A K9 Reiki Healing Journey on #FlashbackFriday
This has been a time of great reflection for me. My family is going through a pretty big change, and with it comes downsizing and cleaning out items that have been put away years ago. Some of these items include my adult daughter's childhood artwork, puppy dog toys my FiveSibes have outgrown over the years and I just couldn't part with (but have now donated to some foster Husky friends in need and some to our local SPCA where I have adopted two of my past furry best friends). And then there are the photo albums full of memories...some of mine...some of my mother's...and with memories, come tears for missing all the loved ones who have departed, and smiles for all the love we did share.
Along with reflection, comes memories of my beloved heart dog, Gibson. As many of you know, he was diagnosed shortly after his third birthday with Canine Epilepsy, and together we embarked upon an unknown journey for the next seven years together. He became my inspiration for facing all his health challenges so bravely. He became the face of Canine Epilepsy, and together we shared his trials and tribulations as an Epi-dog, and the other health issues that came about related to it.
Over those years, our bond became such an amazing one, which I have written two books (What's Wrong With Gibson? Learning About K-9 Epilepsy and EPIc Dog Tales: Heartfelt Stories About Amazing Dogs Living & Loving Life With Canine Epilepsy), partnered with the Anita Kaufmann Foundation for the creation of #Paws4Purple educational program, and written many blog posts about. One of the therapies I tried was distance Reiki with Marta Banat of All Paws Massage in Vancouver, Canada. What is Reiki? Says Marta, "Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of gentle and non-invasive energy healing...."
Please if you have a moment, I wrote a very special and informative piece about our Reiki session, "A Journey Toward Healing" HERE. I think, no matter what you believe or choose for healthcare, it is certainly worth a read.
Today's Flashback photos are from a stop along our Memory Lane trip back in December 2014 from our distance Reiki session. I hope you enjoy them...and the blog article from the overwhelmingly peaceful human-canine bonding experience.
I miss my big fluffy...my heart still squeezes at my memories of him...but he changed my life and showed me how you just never give up, keep fighting, and embrace each day with open joy--Gibbie style!
