Happy 8th Birthday to Our Queen, Harley!

Today is a very special day here in our FiveSibes™ home...it's our Harley's 8th Birthday - the leader of our pack! Woo! It's so hard to believe that it was eight years ago today we brought the tiny little eight-week old pup with the intense mask and bright blue eyes home! This beautiful sassy little pup - who captured my daughter's heart immediately (ours too) -  grew into a beautiful, super smart, and still sassy adult, and is credited with being the first, and future leader, of the FiveSibes! After Harley became part of our family, we definitely came down with the Siberian Husky Potato Chip Syndrome! At the time, we had a then 13-year-old rescued Akita/German Shepherd, Chelsey, who we had since a pup, and she was sadly starting to get Canine Alzheimer's and arthritis, and pup Harley was just too rambunctious and rough for her, so Hu-Dad suggested getting Harley a play mate...and that's when Gibson joined our family and he has had a mad crush on Harley since that first day he came home at four months old! When the three Pupsters came along, Harley immediately took them under her wing and became their surrogate Momma, a role she still cherishes to this very day. 
Harley loves being the alpha "Queen" and she truly commands all the other Sibes' attention and respect. Plus, she still thinks she's a puppy and can just about outrun them all (with the exception maybe of Bandit!) And with a floof of her fluffy tail, she knows she is the royalty of the house! And how we love her so! Here's to many, many, many more happy and healthy years of this amazing girl being part of our family!

 First, our updated annual video to celebrate our little girl from the moment she came home to now! We hope you enjoy our fond look back over the past eight birthdays!

For her birthday, of course, we celebrated with toys and the FiveSibes favorite treat - an ice cream cake with fresh ice cream from our local dairy! Of course it was a lip-smackin' good time!

    Happy Birthday to the very beautiful Harley - she makes a lovely Queen. Amazing how similar our stories are. We became a Siberian-loving family in much the same way. Dakota so needed a pupmate - and you know the rest of the story:)

#PrayersForHarley - Dewclaw Tumor

Dewclaws. Such an unnecessary evil for a dog. In August, I noticed Harley limping. At 11-and-a-half, she is a bit stiff-legged at times from arthritis, but this was a more pronounced limp and she was having an extra tough time sitting down. She seemed very uncomfortable. She was also becoming a bit snarley, especially when I was touching her paw, which is something that never typically bothers her. Upon further checking, I noticed an odd lump around her dewclaw on her right leg, thinking it was possibly a pulled dewclaw, maybe a splinter, thistle, or even a bee sting , she became extremely agitated when I touched it.    (Warning: some photos may be somewhat graphic, but I am sharing for educational purposes).   Oddity beneath the dew claw.   Off to the vet we went. The Rainbow Bridge Welcomes A New FurAngel - Buddy, the Christmas Husky - A Forever Symbol of Hope for Rescued Dogs

My beloved Gibson is there. As is my Chelsey, Sandy, kitty Smokie, bunny Sunny, my fox Ah, many horses, and so many others pets. We have many furfriends who have also crossed The Rainbow Bridge. All of these beloved animals are there...so healthy and happy, with all the dogs enjoying their zoomies and playing Fetch all day in a land that is eternally beautiful. Sounds perfect. Only catch is when our devoted companions are there, we can no longer physically be with them. So while they are in a place where the spirit soars, our hearts are broken as we are missing them here with us. Fit For Our #FiveSibes Alpha Queen: Celebrating Harley's 14½ Birthday

Born on March 10, 2005, our beautiful alpha queen, pupster surrogate momma, and my daughter's and our first Siberian Husky,  turns 14½ today! You may be wondering why are we celebrating her half birthday? Because, as heartbreaking as it is, we now know she will not be here in March to celebrate her 15th Birthday as I once had hoped. Heartfelt thanks to Ann at Zoolatry for this beautiful badge. Thank you all who are sharing it and joining paws for our girl.
