Time's Shadow: Reflections of a Heart Dog's Birthday

Image
Gibson's 9th Birthday...January 6, 2015   "Time flies over us,  but leaves its shadow behind."   ~Nathaniel Hawthorne H appy Birthday, north of the Rainbow Bridge to my dear Gibson! Some days forever ring out in our hearts. Like today. My beloved heart dog, Gibson, was born on this date. He came into my life as a four-month-old wooly fluff ball, and oh, little did I know of the journey that awaited us, nor how this boy would become my forever heart dog.  How lucky was I to have been his hu-mom!   This year, I'm sharing his 9th birthday party...little did I know then that this was to be the last birthday he would be with me to celebrate. He earned his furangel wings just three weeks shy of his 10th birthday. I know we talk about time, as today's quote says, it does indeed "fly" over us...and so quickly, too quickly. This birthday was 10 years ago...meaning my boy would be 19 today. Of course, he would not still be with me, but isn't it something to...

A New Year's Wish: To Do Better Helping Homeless Huskies

Image
A fond New Year's Memory: Gibson sure loved to party!  A loving home, and understanding of the breed, is all they truly need . (Attribution: FiveSibes.blogspot.com)   A s we prepare to shut the door on 2024, and step into a fresh new year--a clean slate of 365 days to do better. Much better. I'm talking about helping to reduce (or a bigger wish for 2025, to eliminate) the number of Siberian Huskies that wind up abandoned, roaming the streets hurt, injured, sick; or in an already too-full shelter. Today, sadly, yet another shelter reports that they over-capacity—m eaning they CANNOT take in more dogs! 2024 has seen longtime Siberian Husky rescues shutter their businesses. Shelters are at over-capacity levels and stopped intakes. Rescuers are exhausted. They can only work with the limited funding and space they have for a certain number of dogs. Many rescues do not have a brick-and-mortar facility, they rely solely on foster families. The shelters that do have facilities rely o...
