National Dog Day, also known as International Dog Day,  was founded in 2004 by  Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Rescue Advocate, Conservationist, Dog Trainer and Author,  Colleen Paig e. According to the website, Paige is  also the founder of  National Puppy Day , National Mutt Day,   National Cat Day ,   National Wildlife Day  "and many more philanthropic days to bring attention to the plight of animals around the globe and encourage adoption."   What is the Significance of the date August 26TH? This is the date when "Colleen's family adopted her first dog 'Sheltie' from the local animal shelter, when Colleen was 10 years old." This #FlashbackFriday memory from nine years ago was one of those special times for me as a dog lover, husky hu-mom of five, and as an author. It's about an extra special dog...a Siberian Husky who we all came to know as "Buddy, the Christmas Husky,"   and the good friends we made because of him.    Buddy was named "The Christmas Husky" because it was on Christmas Day 2011 the life of this sick, starving, injured, and abandoned almost unrecognizable Husky. He wore his pain and illness on his frail, mange-filled body, but was still passed by many cars as he tried to make his way through the snow.
