It's Supermoon!
Wolf waiting for the supermoon to appear. |
Today's Shadow Shot Sunday is devoted to "supermoon" watching!
This was a pretty special weekend indeed for moongazers and photographers alike, as it was the appearance of a supermoon. A supermoon is when the moon orbits close to the earth - and this supermoon was the closest it has been to Earth in 18 years. The colors change from a bright white to a glowing gold-orange depending on the location and time, and in some areas, it loomed large over the horizon. Now I would have to say, it definitely is in competition with the August "harvest moon," but this morning actually proved to be the best time to capture some awesome "larger moon" shots.
Here is a little slideshow of the supermoon's progression, beginning Friday night.
Here, most of the FiveSibes took it all in stride, periodically perching themselves looking upward to stare at the bright beauty. Just one Sibe seemed to be affected by its magical pull - our Chloe. She was a little agitated and wanted nothing to do with being outside. The others just fell into a comfortable sleep under the brightly lit sky when not moon gazing, until it was time to come in for bed.
So, this morning we bid goodbye to the supermoon as it slipped to sleep behind the dawning horizon, and with its departure, we give spring a big hearty welcome!

We went out to look at super moon, but honestly, it did not look nearly as big and close as some of the harvest moons we get in the fall. It sure was bright, though.
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
Mango
Sadly we had heavy clouds and saw no moon last night. Friday's was pretty specatcular, and we did see that one.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful slide show.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

We caught a couple of quick peaks as it dipped behind clouds. It was super bright.
ReplyDeleteYour pal,Pip
We got to see it here too, it was super beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWolf's a pretty bright dog to be waiting for Super Moon!
ReplyDeleteSHADOW SINGER
Of shadows an old man did sing;
He chanted in Guelph and Beijing;
The shade was his friend,
He loved it no end—
It made him feel rich as a king!

OK, that was just incredible--too beautiful. I don't think I've seen the moon look quite that lovely before. Mickie
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get to see the real thing so it was nice catching it here. That was beautiful...thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteWe all thought it was spectacular! Really beautiful. Sounds like your dogs thought so too.
ReplyDeleteWe got a few glimpses of it last night, it was beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shadow shot!

The pictures are lovely. I had no idea the moon was so close this weekend, I would have wanted to see it from here too.
ReplyDeleteWe were very excited about the moon which looked very impressive but sadly we had quite a lot of cloud that spoilt the enjoyment so thank you for sharing your fab photos.
ReplyDeleteHuge thanks too for your last comment you left on my blog for me. You are very kind indeed. I'm grabbing your beautiful button today and putting it in my sidebar then I can gaze fondly at your wonderful dogs whenever I like.
Due to Hubby keeping me busy the last few days I've got behind on my favourite blogs so I am going to hang around here for a while and catch up on the posts I have missed.
French kisses from Ted the dog (oh dear that doesn't quite sound as it was intended- Ted lives in France, does that sound better?)
Great slideshow! We enjoyed the view. And I agree, welcome spring! I am ready.
ReplyDeleteMy mom person fell asleep, so we missed the super-moon!

Beautiful! We didn't get any because the clouds got in the way.... Well done, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThe Moon photos are very nice but your "Watcher" shot of Wolf is breath-takingly haunting.

Supermoon was extraordinary, indeed. I took some pics of it but they didn't come out nearly as lovely,,,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful beautiful shadow shot. Just love it! The angle, the composition, everything! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteYour super moon shots are just pawsome! We had rain, hail, and clouds, but after midnight some clouds moved out of the way for my human to get a few shots. But, she does not have a camera as excellent as yours, so her shots are not as clear. Still, it was a wonder to see and being under the super moon's beams felt magical!
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous super moon photos!
Suka
Nobody told me about this. But good you shared your story! :)
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late but I've been sick...
Oh I had fun photographing the Super Moon! Right down to tripping on a dark dirt path through the woods without a flashlight to get to the lake! But it was worth it!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful kids you have. Too bad we don't live closer. Our Lazer would love to meet your pack. The rest of our pack doesn't understand his Siberian enthusiasm.
