What a Fantastic Friday! #TheSibeVibe Anniversary, Watch Eyes #Book Trilogy by Joanne Sundell, A #Giveaway & Flashbacks All on National Dog Day!

"Woo! You can win these amazing books! Keep reading!"
What a fantastic Friday this is! We've had a rough week this past week with three of us being in "sick bay," hence  my brief absence, but that's a story for tomorrow! Today, there is just so much to celebrate and talk about! First up, it is the fourth anniversary of the very first air date of my show, "The Sibe Vibe" on Dog Works Radio! On August 26, 2012, we chatted with amazing folks from the Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida! The show is produced by my co-host, Robert Forto, who is also a dog trainer and behaviorist, and lead musher of Team Ineka in Willow, Alaska, where my show is produced. Earlier this summer, Robert along with his wife, Michele, also a dog trainer and behaviorist, took a month off to come down to visit the lower 48 for their 2016 "Rock n' Roller" tour that began in Colorado.

Robert and I at our live taping of "The Sibe Vibe" in New York!

Robert and Michele hit up rock concerts and were thrilled by riding rollercoasters in theme parks across the country! They visited family and friends, and picked up a service dog for their training academy!

A personal highlight for me was when they came through New York and Robert and I were able to do, for the first time ever,  a live broadcast of "The Sibe Vibe" together! You can read all about live anniversary show HERE in an earlier blog post. What a fun time it was to be together chatting, and interacting with our audience of family, friends, and fans!

One of our shows featured author Joanne Sundell, who talked about writing her Watch Eyes Trilogy of Arctic Storm, Arctic Shadow, and Arctic Will!  What an amazing hour of Husky talk, including the history of the Siberian, ode to sled dogs of the past, and an author's inside view of the creation of the mystical and fantastical world that is the backdrop for the Watch Eyes Trilogy! I also had the pleasure of receiving advance copies of the book to review, starting with Arctic Storm. My sweet boy Gibson was here for that photoshoot, and once you begin to read, you are immediately transported to another world filled with characters, history, and magic! If you missed the show live, you can look for it over on our Dog Works Radio page, on iTunes ("The Sibe Vibe" is under the Dog Works Radio family of shows), or listen to it right here below:

Gibson had loved Book 1 - Arctic Storm!
What a fantastic trilogy of books these are! And Joanne has graciously offered to donate the set to one very lucky FiveSibes reader/listener in celebration of our show's Fourth Anniversary! How awesome is that?! As part of my Flashback Friday, I'll be sharing a few pics of the FiveSibes with our copies of these amazing books. The magical, mystical story is interwoven with the factual history of the Siberian Husky, and ~ of course ~ features many Huskies as the co-stars of the book! If you are a fan of the worlds created by Jack London, George R. R. Martin, and Diana Gabaldon, you'll love Joanne's stories!

Harley was into Book 1 - Arctic Shadow!
The story of a Chuchki shaman girl and her journey, along with many majestic Siberian Huskies and their in-depth and very interesting history, will leave you turning the pages and rushing to get to the next book! These books are a *must read* and I'm so thrilled Joanne has made this amazing offer to my readers and listeners! How exciting is this?!

Wolf loved Book 3 - Arctic Will!

What a fantastic Flashback Friday! And...a great way to celebrate National Dog Day! Even though that's every day here, it's always fun to have a "howliday" to do something fun and special for our wonderful, devoted canine companions! National Dog Day (also known as International Dog Day) was founded in 2004 by Pet and Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige. "Millions of dogs are killed each year because they're simply unwanted," states Colleen Paige. "They're unwanted because no one realized how to properly care for the demands of the breed. They're unwanted because they were bought as a Christmas gift for a child that didn't keep their promises about caring for the dog...unwanted because they shed too much...unwanted because they bark too much. UNWANTED...simply because someone changed their mind. All a dog wants to do is love and protect you. That's all. Dogs are amazing, courageous, sensitive and sentient beings that deserve compassion and respect. Please consider bringing what was once considered 'unwanted love,' into your heart and home on National Dog Day!"

  20. It sounds like it really was a fantastic Friday! I loved seeing the photo of Gibson and the first book, I hope that brought back good memories for you! I hope everyone is feeling so much better. I have to say that while I love National Dog Day, I think it is important to realize that some dogs that end up in rescue, it isn't because they are unwanted, but because the situation for their humans has changed and they don't feel they have a choice. My dog was well loved by another person, I know she was sobbing when she turned him in to the shelter. I wish I had a way to let her know that he is still well loved and safe.

  26. Happy Belated Dog Day, and happy Anniversary! The books look amazing. We recently spoke to someone representing a husky rescue in California, and she said over 300 huskies are surrendered in Southern Cali alone, monthly, it doesn't sound possible, so maybe I have that wrong, but either way, people need to be educated on what these beautiful dogs need and how to happily manage them!
