Happy 90th Birthday, Mom and Hu-Nanny!

An earlier photo of Mom with her furbabies Brandy & Lady
Today is a very special post...it's my Mom's, and the FiveSibes' Hu-Nanny's, 90th Birthday! She is a very special and loving lady who, along with my dad, has loved animals her whole life, passing that down to us kids, and I to my own! Pictured above, is one of my all-time favorite photographs I have taken of my Mom. She is with her two beloved and devoted furbabies, Brandy and Lady, who all posed together many years ago on one of her birthdays!

Growing up, we always had multiple dogs (both purebreds and many, many adopted & stray ones, and ones who just happened to "follow us home!") We also raised horses, ponies, goats, ducks, and had a myriad of cats, bunnies, turtles, fish, and even a red fox (it's mother was killed by a car and it was just a tiny baby all alone on the side of the road when my brother rescued it. We had to nurse it with a doll's bottle). Our pet menagerie also included a bull named "Toro," 77 baby chicks, parakeets, and even a spider monkey named "Chi-Chi" who just loved my mother and would perch up on her shoulder! Talk about a fun childhood!

Recently, Mom lost her Poodle, Joy, of 15 years, which was very devastating to her. Joy, who suffered from Addison's Disease, and defied the odds when she was initially only given five years to live. Through Mom's loving care and strict medicine and diet regiment, Joy lived a long, healthy life, and was her little baby right up until the very end when sadly, it was Joy's time to cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Now Mom loves it when I visit with one of the Sibes, and Wolf really enjoys going for visits!

Wolf buckled up in the car &ready to go visit Hu-Nanny!

We are almost there!
"Wooo! Nanny, I'm here! Open up!"
Ahhh, togetherness!!!

We also really enjoy rides down to the beach where my Mom can feed and visit with the seagulls. And I think they know when she arrives because they flock to our car and squawk and wait for their tidbits of bread. The come up real close to her too! Pictured here, she is with one of her many fine-feathered friends!

Happy 90 Years Young, Momma, with lots and lots of love, as well as Happy Birthday wishes, woos, and Husky hugs from the FiveSibes (and meows from the two cats)!!!

  5. Happy Birthday to that wonderful lady in your lives!!!! Our Mom so misses her own Mom, she would have turned 96 this August if she were still alive. We hope your Mom/Hu-nanny has a wonderful day and many healthy and happy years ahead of her. Anyone who loves animals like that HAS to be a great person.

  6. Your childhood sounds a lot like mine! My parents weren't raised with animals, and were confused when their youngest daughter loved them all. They indulged me though, and my dad built endless coops and pens, and it was a great childhood.

Have you thought of seeing if your Mom could foster older pets - lots of rescues need special homes for the older ones, and your Mom sounds perfect. It would keep dogs in her life.

Wish her Happy Birthday from us!

    Sam

  22. Happy 90th to your mom! She sounds like a woman after my own heart. And her love of animals is so much like my own mom and the subject of my next book, Dog in the Pond, Sheep on the Roof! I love the way your mom's face lights up when she's with animals, esp. the seagull!
